( Mrs. Giovanna Cascone- English teacher and Mrs Concetta Petrolito – History and Philosophy

teacher),from the High school “Liceo Scientifico E.Fermi”, Ragusa –Italy, have visited Turkey for 12

days, living in the eastern city of Erzincan , within the second phase of the activities planned by the

Comenius project “ From common roots to a common future”.

The aim of this project , funded by the European Community, is to find similarities between Italy

and Turkey, from the historical, linguistic and cultural point of view.

The Italian students have been hosted by their Turkish partners of the High School IMKB Nevzat

Ayaz Fen Lisesi from Erzincan and the Coordinator of the project in Turkey was the English teacher

Mrs.Yazgul Ilgin, helped by the Geography teacher Mr Duran Akcan and the staff of the school

directed by Mr Idris Meral.

Students have leant a lot about the ways of life, the language and the natural landscapes of the

area, as their Turkish partners had done in May 2012,when they visited the baroque monuments

and the historical places near Ragusa.

Italian students went to Trabzon , to the Girlevick waterfalls ,to Kemaliye ,to Eksisu, to Mount

Ergon, and to Istanbul in the last day, before departure.

Mr Angelo Burgio , working at the Italian Consulate and Mrs Mine ……, an excellent tourist guide,

have guided the Italian group to discover the treasures of the cosmopolitan city of Istanbul

( Haghia Sophia, Yerebatan Sarnici, the Blue Mosque, The Topkapi Palace ,the Egyptian Bazar

and the pedestrian Isticklal Cadesi).

The atmosphere of this lively city has fashinated everyone with its mixture of history and pulsing

life, of delicious spicy food and enchanting sounds.

The aim of the project has been fully reached because students teachers and families have

discovered how human beings are the same all over the world and we hope projects like this can

help to build a future of peace and mutual understanding among the new generations .

Leaving Turkey, Italian students said they had left one piece of their heart in this country that is really amazing above

all for its warm, intelligent and welcoming people.
